About Garden Blooms

The nursery is a small independently owned business specialising in herbaceous perennial plants. All the plants are grown on site and the vast majority are also propagated there.

The business originally started on a part time basis, in West Yorkshire, in 2004 whilst Liz was studying horticulture at Askham Bryan college and also working as a Practice Manager in General Practice.

Starting with bedding plants Liz soon developed a specific interest in herbaceous perennials and this is what the business concentrates on now. House plants have always been an interest and this is a small but growing area of the business.

From 2006 the nursery started exhibiting at local flower shows and by 2017 attended eight major shows, including the RHS shows at Chatsworth and Tatton and both Harrogate Flower shows. These are in addition to several plant fairs, mostly in Yorkshire and an now annual open weekend at the nursery in May.

The nursery relocated to the pretty South Yorkshire village of Fishlake in 2009 and the nursery has grown, especially since 2012 when Liz started running the nursery on a full time basis.

In 2014 Liz gained her RHS Level 3 Diploma in The Principles and Practices of Horticulture. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and gives talks to local horticultural societies and gardening groups.

Liz is assisted in the nursery by her husband Steve who is chief grass cutter and maker and mender of anything!

The Nursery and camp site at Fishlake closed in 2020.

In future it will continue in as a specialist house plant nursery following relocation to East Yorkshire in late 2021.
